Abstract
In recent years, female crimes have been on the rise and are becoming more serious and more masculine in nature. Causal factors of female crime include biological factors such as menstruation, pregnancy and menopause which are unique to females, and psychological factors such as resentment, rage and jealousy which are evident mostly in violent crimes. Characteristics of female crimes by type are as follows: (1) Larceny occurs less frequently than fraud; (2) Fraud is the most frequent form of female crime in Korea; (3) Female murders are very limited in number; (4) Females are unlikely to commit robbery on their own; (5) Bodily injury is a frequent type of female crime as well as overall crime in Korea; (6) Arson is a small proportion of female crimes in all countries; and (7) Most female drug users start taking drugs as a result of peer pressure from lovers or acquaintances in gangster organizations. To prevent female crime, society must first recognize it and its causes. The social status and roles of women should be guaranteed in such a way that they may lead healthy, prosperous lives without financial dependence on men, emotional or physiological dependence on drugs, or psychological dependence on the approval of others.
