The two techniques were evaluated to determine if one was superior in performance using 26 separate rolls of 2-inch duct tape. Each roll of tape was opened approximately 1 foot in length, touched by an individual using all 10 fingers at one time, and then rerolled using a minimum amount of pressure. All 26 rolls of tape were touched in the first week of the project by 26 separate individuals. Results showed Gentian Violent produced faint, often poor quality prints that were difficult to photograph, while Sticky-Side Powder produced dark gray ridge detail that could be easily photographed. Suitable prints were developed 42 percent of the time using Gentian Violet and 81 percent of the time using Sticky-Side Powder. Over the entire course of the 6-month project, corresponding percentages were 54 percent for Gentian Violet and 77 percent for Sticky-Side Powder. 2 references and 2 figures
