The frames were manufactured from cast aluminum into which four equally space rods were attached. Between the rods, four nickel-plated clips were permanently mounted to the frame on opposite sides. Two movable clips were placed on each rod. Once a section of the adhesive evidence had been separated, one end was attached to a mounted clip on the frame and the other end was clamped by a movable clip on the nearby rod. The movable clip was then repositioned to extend the adhesive strip. Cast aluminum was selected to construct the frames due to cost and technical restraints, making them heavier than they needed to be. Nonetheless, the frames prevented potential damage to latent fingerprints and made latent fingerprint development both easier and faster. 8 references and 3 figures
