This directory describes crime victim compensation programs in the United States and 17 foreign countries, based on a survey of 60 countries conducted by the Office for Victims of Crime.
Abstract
The survey received 26 responses, 17 of which described existing programs. The 17 countries all provide financial compensation to crime victims, including foreign citizens. In addition, four countries compensate citizens of their own nation who become victims in another country. Each program generally has established rules regarding the eligibility requirements, procedures, and compensable costs. Each also allows for exceptions to those rules in special circumstances. The listing for each program includes its name, director, address, telephone and fax numbers, eligibility requirements, filing period, claims procedures, benefit and award limits, compensable costs, availability of emergency awards, and funding sources. List of telephone and fax numbers for the State and Federal victim compensation programs
