This manual presents a course outline and materials for a 21-hour training course designed to provide information and develop the skills of victim service providers of any ethnic background in responding to Hispanic victims.
Abstract
The training aims to provide information on the principles of cross-cultural service delivery and to distribute model written and oral materials that can be used to provide service to Hispanic victims of crime. It also aims to describe cultural attitudes, values, beliefs, and concepts that may suggest modifications of typical victim counseling and advocacy and to describe strategies of outreach, intervention, and advocacy that may be useful in working with Hispanic populations. The manual's first section is designed for trainers who seek to implement the outlined training curriculum. It reviews adult education techniques and suggests training techniques that might be used with this curriculum. The second section includes a suggested training agenda, a list of learning objectives, outlines for suggested lectures, exercises for group participation, and suggestions for group discussions. The third part provides suggested readings. Reference lists; charts; tables; and appended list of publications by the National Organization for Victim Assistance referenced in the text, materials on victim issues that have been translated into Spanish and may be used to develop brochures or flyers, and a glossary of criminal justice and other phrases and terms in English and Spanish, and 123 references
