The 1995 annual report of the Pierce County, Washington, Prosecuting Attorney's Office indicates a year of transition and change.
Abstract
The Felony Division was plagued early in the year with a steady caseload increase that began in 1994. Overall, felony crime rose 8.5 percent in 1995, even though some areas improved; for example, homicides fell from 68 to 48 between 1994 and 1995. Juvenile crime continued to rise and showed dramatic increases in the area of violent crime. The Domestic Violence team in the Misdemeanor Division had a significant impact on case handling. A significant accomplishment of the Family Support Division involved the collection of $1 million in former "uncollectible" child support. The Civil Division kept up with the increasing demands of county government departments for specialized legal advice. Statistical data are provided on staffing and expenditures of the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, felonies, misdemeanors, juvenile cases, appeals, investigative services, and family support court appearances.
