The center is located in a small house near the local courthouse; it is designed to be both neutral and child-focused and to provide a friendly and supportive place for interviews with the child and non-offending family members. NCAC began operations in May 1985. It aims to prevent the re-victimization of child sexual abuse victims as the system responds to their cases, to have children experience their involvement with responding agencies as therapeutic, to hold more child abuse perpetrators accountable for their crimes, to provide families with needed services, to improve professional skills, and to assist other communities in establishing a system response to child sexual abuse. NCAC has 24 board members. Staff included an executive director, a clinical director, two therapists, a medical director, a child interview specialist, a clinical assistant, a financial manager, a receptionist, program coordinators, and volunteers who provide transportation.
