The premise of the program is that an understanding of the law will make students more responsible citizens. The program encourages learning through active participation and employs such approaches as debates, dramatizations, interviews, research, and role playing. Attorneys and judges are periodically invited to the school to discuss law-related topics that encompass due process, probable cause, individual rights, plea bargaining, criminal procedures, evidence, jury trials, and the impact of a prior criminal record on the current charge. Actual student debates and dramatizations are included in the videotape to demonstrate the active participation emphasis of the law-related educational program.
