This document compiles materials on the National Crime Victims' Rights Week in April 1990 when organizations across the country held special ceremonies to increase awareness of the problems experienced by crime victims and to recognize those who work on behalf of crime victims and their families.
Abstract
The materials include remarks by President Bush to inaugurate the week, background information on crime victims, initiatives taken by the National Institute of Justice's Office for Victims of Crime for victims of Federal crimes, and the compensation and assistance program of the Victims of Crime Act. The materials also include an overview of the week's activities and legislative actions, biographic information on persons nominated for awards, a list of persons invited to activities celebrating the week, provisions of the Victims of Crime Act of 1984 and the Victim and Witness Protection Act of 1982, and guidelines for victim and witness assistance.
