The focus is on values related to family preservation and cultural competence, and an effort is made to develop a deeper understanding of the role of family and culture in the prevention of ATOD problems in Hispanic populations. The volume is organized in three parts. The first part considers the nature of ATOD problems, particularly issues in preventing ATOD problems in Hispanic families, behavior problems among Hispanic youth, and the family as a moderator of adjustment. The second part examines family-based intervention models, including structural family therapy, a curriculum to strengthen Hispanic families, and multicultural effectiveness training for Hispanic parents. The third part discusses three family-oriented, community-based intervention models: a community-based outreach model for addicted women; a family support and education program designed to strengthen families in the preschool years, and a school-based intervention program.
