Abstract
Individual papers in this second edition of a volume on crime victims also focus on special populations, including child victims, victims of domestic violence, and victims of hate crimes. Victims' rights and services in Europe are also examined. The introduction notes that all 50 States have now established programs addressing victims' rights and victim compensation, that recent research has clarified many aspects of the psychological impacts of victimization, and that the scarcity of data on the effectiveness of victim services programs is a continuing problem. New themes in this second edition are the nature of victimization and its variations according to people's lifestyles and routine activities, new roles for victim services, the institutionalization of victim services, the increasing sophistication of research on victims, and increasing attention to special populations of victims. 2 references
