Resolutions and decisions focused on corruption, the conduct of public officials, crime and public security, the role of criminal law in environmental protection, international cooperation and assistance in criminal justice system management, and the elimination of violence against women. Resolutions and decisions also encompassed measures to prevent illicit trafficking in children, the prevention of organized transnational crime, firearms regulation, juvenile justice administration, principles of justice for crime victims, safeguards to protect the rights of offenders facing the death penalty, and UN crime prevention and criminal justice standards and norms. Priority themes brought to the attention of participants at the fifth session are noted, and the agenda of the 10th UN Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders is described.
