This booklet explains a police policy and strategy for reducing domestic assault in New York City as a major police strategies being designed and launched by the Giuliani administration to reduce violent crime in the city. ..ABST The New York Police Department (NYPD) is committed to asddressing every instance of domestic violence that it finds, wherever reason exists to believe that a criminal act has occurred or a potential victim is in imminent danger. The NYPD will revise its policies and procedures to ensure every effort to obtain an arrest whenever a domestic violence felony has been committed, a protection order has been violated, a domestic violence misdemeanor has occurred and the victim wants an arrest or is in imminent danger, or a violation has occurred in a police officer's presence and the victim wants an arrest. Other actions will include refocusing enforcement personnel, creating a current database on protection orders, revising police and procedures to establish proactive problem-solving practices, and expanding personnel training. The NYPD will also implement a new, comprehensive tracking system for all domestic incidents.
