Newly marketed drugs are screened for abuse potential and can be placed into the schedule at the time of marketing or later, depending on experience once the drug is in use. The drug schedule contains five sections: (1) opiates, opium derivatives, hallucinogenic substances, depressants, and stimulants; (2) opioid narcotics, hallucinogenic substances, opiates, stimulants, and depressants; (3) opioid narcotics (products containing codeine and products containing hydrocodone), stimulants, amphetamine and methamphetamine combinations, depressants, and anabolic steroids; (4) stimulants, depressants, and analgesics; and (5) prescription drugs.
