More than 1,500 delegates representing police agencies, courts, corrections departments, and the general public participated in the conference. The purpose of the conference was to provide a forum in which criminal justice practitioners could review and discuss major findings of the National Advisory Commission on Criminal Justice Standards and Goals. The conference was designed to stimulate an increased awareness of problems facing the criminal justice system and propose solutions to these problems by developing standards and goals for use by State and local governments. In addition to six plenary sessions, the conference had three sessions: (1) overview of standards and goals; (2) innovation and change; and (3) special issues related to crime prevention and corrections. Forum sessions of the conference addressed State criminal justice issues related to the police, courts, corrections, community crime prevention, and criminal justice information and systems, and these sessions also included State caucuses. Tables and figures
