Abstract
The Ministry of Justice began its regular publication of "Situation of Crime and Analysis" in 1983. This report provides information on criminal justice processing in Taiwan, including data on the incidence of crime, criminal investigations, prosecution, conviction, and execution of sentence. It also contains data on the death penalty, prison sentences, and community-based treatment programs. There are special reports on juvenile crime, female crime, and crimes by foreigners. The Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau also collects crime statistics and publishes the "Report on Economic Crimes and Drug Offenses." This report presents 5-year incidence statistics for economic crimes such as money laundering, organized crime, investment fraud, bankruptcy fraud, and insurance fraud. "Crime Statistics in Taiwan" is published by the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the National Police Administration. This is the first and most complete annual crime report. Other than the aforementioned major sources of criminal justice statistics, the local governments also publish criminal justice reports. Scholars in Central Police University have done most of the criminal justice research in the country. Research results are published in the Police Journal of Central Police University and the Police Science Quarterly. These two journals can be accessed through the Internet. A table shows crime rates in Taiwan for 1961-94. A table lists various reports, along with the publishing agency and content of each.
