Abstract
The National Research Institute of Legal Policy was established during the 1960's to provide analyses of the effects of criminal justice legislation and to support legislative planning. It publishes research reports, has its own library that specializes in criminal justice and criminology, and offers advice for students and researchers. An annual serial publication focuses on an assessment of crime in the country and the development of crime control. Statistics Finland is the primary statistical center in Finland, as it produces two-thirds of the governmental statistics, including the quarterly and annual criminal justice statistics. Its library is open to the public without charge. The Ministry of Justice Department of Prison Administration focuses on the needs of Finland's penal system. It dispenses information on corrections research. The Institute of Education for Penal Organizations has a library with one of the foremost criminological collections in the country. It is publishing in cooperation with the Department of Prison Administration research reports, educational material, and even some prison prose and poetry. The Police Academy of Finland/Information Services and Research has an infoservice that answers questions on policing, criminology, emergency psychology, criminalistics, inner security management, criminal policy, and frontier guard activities. The Library of Parliament is the main library of politology and social developments in Finland. It has the largest collection of material pertinent to the preparation of laws and administrative planning; this is the best source for general information on Finnish criminal justice administration. Addresses for each agency are provided.
