To assess the implications of community policing, interviews were conducted with six individuals involved in the field, including three university professors and three law enforcement officials.
Abstract
Interview questions concerned factors prompting interest in community policing; differences among community policing, community-oriented policing, problem-oriented policing, and neighborhood-oriented policing; and whether community policing is really a new concept. Interview questions also explored the role of community policing in violent crime reduction, the extent to which community policing is employed by law enforcement agencies, major contributors to the field of community policing, significant community policing publications, impressions of community policing in other countries, and the future of community policing. Each of the six individuals offered his perspectives on the effective and implications of community policing. 3 photographs
