Abstract
Written primarily for nonprofessionals, including wives of child molesters and their relatives, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances, the book explains the manipulative nature of child molesters are and provides guidelines on what those who know convicted child molesters can do to reduce the odds they will victimize again. The first six chapters of the book detail how child molesters use denial, secrecy, blaming, and manipulation to set up not only their victims but everyone around them as well. The remaining four chapters of the book deal specifically with what is needed to reduce the chances for reoffending. These chapters provide an in-depth look at the criminal justice system, discuss the investigation and supervision of convicted child molesters by correctional agencies, and examine mental health treatment programs for sex offenders. Particular attention is paid to the presentence investigation report, the role of probation officers in sex offender sentencing and supervision, and community-based treatment of child molesters. 75 references
