The nexus between theoretical and practical victimology is an important theme of this volume of papers. Symposium participants debated and discussed, among other topics: victim impact statements and compensation; victimization in families; gender bias in the legal system; the victims of war in Bosnia; victims of human rights abuses in the former South Africa; and research findings and practical programs being conducted around the world. The volume is divided into sections concerning: (1) Power, Politics and Victimization (victimology's ability to work with and for the victims of abuses of power); (2) Victim Surveys and Methodology (the themes which attend the process of undertaking research on victimization and outcomes of selected national and international victim surveys); (3) Victims, Offenders and the Criminal Justice System (the extent to which victims should be involved in the criminal process); and (4) Serving Victims (victims' services, criminal injuries compensation, professional service providers, prevention and restoration).
