This volume presents statistical data on the demographics, health, family relations, education, economic conditions, leisure, sexual activity, and deviance of adolescents and young adults ages 12-21, based on information from national databases and studies.
Abstract
The statistics include both recent data and trends from earlier years and decades. The data on deviance cover juvenile arrest rates, self-reported juvenile delinquency, alcohol and drug use, and problems in juvenile-family relations. Additional tables focus on violence and other problem behavior at school, positive and negative peer pressure, the victimization of juveniles, victim-offender relationships, and adolescent attitudes on issues such as personal security. The education data focus on school discipline and violence, school dropouts, enrollment in different types of schools, homework, youth attitudes toward school, academic achievement, educational aspirations, extracurricular activities, and post-secondary education. Other data describe health problems, medical services, adolescent sexual activity and pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, depression and mental illness, suicide, and recreational activities.
