This report presents detailed profiles of data sets that are useful for monitoring progress in reducing harm associated with the use of alcohol, illicit drugs, and tobacco.
Abstract
The document is intended as a companion to a 1993 report titled Substance Abuse: The Nation's Number One Health Problem, Key Indicators for Health Policy. The data sets were identified by means of interviews with experts at government agencies, universities, and elsewhere. The data are national in scope and were mostly collected during 1990 or later. Most data sets may be obtained as a public-use tape for conducting further research. The profiles of data collections describe the content and organization of the data sources used to compile indicators for the other report, as well as other data sources related to these topics. Each profile provides information on the purpose of the data collection, the sponsoring agency, where to obtain a data tape, the sample design, and the topics covered. It also describes all items related to alcohol, illicit drugs, and tobacco. Chart summarizing the survey names, drugs addressed, and main indicators included
