The 1993 annual report of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, Family Court Division, discusses accomplishments of the Juvenile Branch, the Domestic Relations Branch, and Children and Youth Services.
Abstract
During 1993, several initiatives were undertaken to improve the Family Court. The Domestic Relations Branch began to install PARENTS, the Philadelphia Automated and Recovery and Enforcement Network Training System, an automated system for child support operations. The Juvenile Branch assessed information needs of juvenile probation. Also during 1993, the number of juvenile court cases rose by 6 percent over the preceding year, but case processing did not experience backlogs. A school-based juvenile probation unit was initiated, with a probation officer stationed in eight high schools, to improve attendance, grades, and school conduct. The Domestic Relations Branch processed 556,000 child support checks involving over $110 million in payments. Another initiative, the Child Support Outreach Amnesty Program, was developed to station child support workers in police stations to try to reactivate child support payments from delinquent payers. Specific accomplishments of the Family Court Division are detailed, and data are tabulated on juvenile and adult offenses. Tables and figures
