Appeals entered in the Supreme Judicial Court rather than transferred here by the court increased to 69 percent of the net entries, while appeals in criminal cases declined to 34 percent of the cases that the court decided. A total of 2,235 appeals were entered in the Appeals Court, an increase of 5.1 percent over fiscal year 1996 and an increase of almost 50 percent over fiscal year 1992.
