Several studies were conducted to examine the use and effectiveness of drug education films in schools.
Abstract
The first study, part of a promotion for a film review service, asked elementary and secondary school teachers about the use of drug education films and their expectations of such films. The second study inventoried drug education materials, including films, in public school libraries. The third study explored student perceptions of drug education films. Many similarities emerged from the three studies that have implications for drug education in general and drug education films in particular. Study findings are discussed in terms of teaching guidelines and the use of films to educate students about alcohol and cigarettes, the drugs used most by students. Consideration is also paid to film evaluation, film costs, and the use of films in conjunction with other materials as part of an effective drug education program. 3 references
