This paper provides an overview of papers presented at a workshop that focused on aims in criminal justice ethics education, the integration of criminal justice ethics into the curriculum, strategies in teaching criminal justice ethics, and evaluation of the teaching of criminal justice ethics.
Abstract
After an overview of a survey of colleges regarding courses on criminal justice ethics and a review of the criminal justice ethics education literature, the workshop papers on aims in criminal justice ethics education are summarized. Papers on this topic address the general aims of criminal justice ethics education, as well as the aims of teaching police ethics. Papers on the integration of criminal justice ethics into the curriculum consider approaches for teaching criminal justice ethics and the use of problems and cases in teaching professional ethics. In addressing strategies in teaching criminal justice ethics, papers discuss psychology's contribution to effective models of ethics education in criminal justice, as well as teaching with cases. One paper reports on a roundtable on the evaluation of the teaching of criminal justice ethics. For the individual papers, see NCJ-170172-86. 18 notes
