The Partnerships Against Violence Network (PAVNET) initiated by the National Institute of Justice is helping communities address juvenile violence by providing information about youth anti-violence programs throughout the country and about the availability of technical assistance and funding for such programs.
Abstract
The information is available in print, on diskette, and on the Internet through PAVNET Online. A distinctive feature of PAVNET is the partnership among Federal agencies that it represents. Seven cabinet-level agencies have combined information to remove barriers communities experience in locating resources to help them reduce violence. PAVNET lists and describes almost 600 promising programs in the areas of drug prevention, family violence, victim services, community violence, and youth violence prevention. It also lists more than 300 sources of training materials, educational curricula, information clearinghouses, hotline numbers, and organizations that can provide onsite assistance to local communities. PAVNET also lists public and private sources of funding. PAVNET is housed at the United States Department of Agriculture and is housed and managed from its National Agricultural Library. PAVNET II has also been proposed as a way to centralize information about research on violence. Sample listing, PAVNET use instructions, photograph, and reference notes
