Data from 174 books, chapters, and journal articles that focused on women and crime and were published in 10 books and 2 journals during 1990-96 were analyzed to determine the 50 most-cited scholars and the 29 most-cited works in these publications and to compare the lists with similar ones taken from other criminology and criminal justice publications.
Abstract
The research focused on 5 books, 99 chapters in 5 edited books, and 70 journal articles. It also examined lists of the most-cited scholars and publications in recent leading criminology and criminal justice journals and textbooks. Results supported the argument of Wright and Soma that scholarship on women and crime is often ignored outside publications on women and crime. Findings should help alert some scholars outside the area of women and crime about some of the most significant contributors and contributions inside women and crime scholarship. The lists of the most-cited scholars and publications should also be helpful for preparing reading lists in courses on women and crime and for library acquisitions.
