The panel discussion is part of a larger project conducted by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) to develop comprehensive training for BJA program management staff on State and local court systems. The project involved site visits to the District of Columbia Superior Court; the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, Criminal Division; and the Reading, Pennsylvania, Court of Common Pleas. Panel participants talk about specific innovations with which they have been involved and how these innovations are different from traditional case management or adversarial approaches. Panel presentations focus on the New Haven, Connecticut, Drug Court; peacemaking versus adversarial court processes; the Mid-Town Community Court in New York City; components of youth courts; the Detroit Youth Gun Court; and the use of differentiated case management and other innovations by the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, Criminal Division.
