New computer software products related to voice recognition, data entry, crime analysis and investigation, vehicle tracking and mapping, the remote control of guns, and other functions are making it possible for police to do the best possible job in the shortest amount of time.
Abstract
Voice recognition software called CrimeTalk uses a law enforcement knowledge base and templates that prompt with questions on the screen to help police officers develop the narrative portions of their reports. Software called CRISNET NetRMS and CRISNET Cruiser simplify data entry for law enforcement. Mapping software has become more user-friendly; this software and other products aid crime analysis and investigation. Other software enables police to manage their vehicle fleets more effectively by tracking vehicle locations. Another type of software improves police safety by enabling them to fire rifles remotely. Another product links the cruiser video camera to a laptop computer. Finally, police agencies can now scan existing documents into computers and thus to use digital casefiles rather than paper files.
