The report includes: State Court Caseload Summary; reports on the activities of the Supreme Judicial Court, Superior Court, District Court, and Administrative Court; and Fiscal Report. Highlights include the following: (1) development of a newsletter into an effective vehicle for chronicling court activities; (2) continuation of a regional meeting program to bring together court employees from around the State; (3) growing use of e-mail, making it much more convenient for staff to stay in contact with each other; (4) installation of a computerized Court Management System in clerks' offices; (5) provision of laptop computers to almost all judges; and (6) establishment of a Maine Judicial System page on the World Wide Web. A major event was the formation of the Dirigo Project State Committee, which is involved in pilot projects to provide legal aid over the Internet, in cable television programs informing the public about courts, and in other volunteer projects to assist the Maine court system.
