The 1996 annual report of the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum focuses on police officers who died while on duty and the assistance provided to their families.
Abstract
The report contains photographs of police officers who died in 1996 and describes the assistance provided to spouses, children, and parents of police officers who died while serving their communities. The report also lists police officers who died in the line of duty since 1960 and discusses efforts to educate citizens who often take it for granted that police officers are always available to respond to their calls for help. In 1997, the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum contacted over 6,600 spouses, children, parents, and close relatives with the Police Family Survivor's Fund newsletter and support program. A birthday gift was sent to every child under 18 years of age and to all children at Christmas time. Assistance was also provided for summer camp programs and for the college education of children.
