The relationship between sexual abuse histories and sexual responses to Card 15 of the Roberts Apperception Test for Children was examined using a sample of 93 children between 4 and 13 years of age who had been referred as inpatients and outpatients for an evaluation by child psychiatrists, pediatricians, and mental health professionals in Minnesota.
Abstract
The child's single response to Card 15 was typed and scored dichotomously for sexual content, and sexual content was based on any mention of an actual sexual incident or an implied sexual incident. Chi-square analysis of sexual abuse, possible sexual abuse, and no sexual abuse groups showed sexual content was reported significantly more often by children with actual or suspected abuse histories, compared to their nonabused psychiatric patient counterparts. 19 references
