The Indianapolis Correctional Aftercare Network (I-Can) is a network of more than 50 correctional and human services agencies and ex-offender groups that facilitates and provides offenders with timely and appropriate referrals to community services to reduce recividism rates.
Abstract
I-Can's mission is to benefit the entire community by helping persons who are charged with or convicted of offenses, as well as persons who have been incarcerated, to take individual responsibility for their actions. I-Can ensures that comprehensive reintegration services are available to offenders, facilitates effective linkage to services, and communicates to the public and policy makers how providing services to offenders is directly related to the well-being of every person in the Indianapolis community. I-Can began in January 1991 as the concept of six people who worked within the Indianapolis correctional system. They met and determined that a countywide network of service providers from both within and outside the correctional system could be crucial to successful transitions and reduced recidivism. I-Can is a model program that can easily be duplicated. List of participating organizations and address from which to obtain a brochure.
