The use of supervision, in-service training and consultation within human service agencies and within a variety of organizational structures in the public and private sectors can provide ongoing cross-cultural competence learning for practitioners working with Latinos receiving AODA (Alcohol and other drug abuse) services. This article focuses on substance abuse assessment and treatment considerations, the relevance of integrating ethnicity factors into treatment, and specific substance abuse issues related to Latinos, including a review of Latino sociodemographics. It also presents a review of the characteristics and functions of supervision, in-service training and consultation and their application as resources for cross-cultural skill learning. The article presents 19 recommendations that highlight the unique benefits and resources of each medium as a method for change and the development of cultural competencies. Notes, references
