This article describes security arrangements at Radio City Music Hall.
Abstract
Security arrangements at Radio City Music Hall are based on a coordinated effort that focuses on quality personnel, good procedures, and ongoing public liaison. Security department personnel include a director, three supervisors, three managers, and an in-house staff of 41 officers who provide 24-hour coverage in three shifts. In addition, a minimum of two emergency medical technicians are on hand at each show, and a special response team consisting of a supervisor and four security officers is also present at each show. Preemployment screening for all personnel includes a background investigation, and a credit and criminal record check. The officers' training program is based on a 200-page manual of goals and procedures, on which personnel are periodically retested. An operation the size of Radio City relies not only on high-quality personnel and well-rehearsed procedures, but also on coordination with local fire and police departments. This is especially important for circumstances requiring additional expertise such as fire inspections, bomb threats, ticket scalping, and media relations.
