This is a copy of H.R. 810, the Anti-Gang and Youth Violence Act of 1997.
Abstract
The Act was intended to deter and punish serious gang and violent crime, promote accountability in the juvenile justice system, prevent juvenile and youth crime, and for other purposes. The Act contains the following titles: (1) Findings, Declaration of Purpose and Policy, and Definitions; (2) Targeting Violent Gang, Gun, and Drug Crimes (includes targeting illicit gun markets and protecting children from guns and drugs); (3) Protecting Witnesses To Help Prosecute Gangs and Other Violent Criminals (includes penalties for obstruction of justice offenses involving victims, witnesses and informants); (4) Protecting Victims' Rights (includes Victims of Child Abuse Act extension of authorization); (5) Federal Prosecution of Serious and Violent Juvenile Offenders; (6) Incarceration of Juveniles in the Federal System (includes rules governing the commitment of juveniles); and (7) Office of Juvenile Crime Control and Prevention (includes establishment of the Office and authorization of appropriations, Juvenile Crime Assistance, and Missing and Exploited Children).
