Annotation: This is an overview of the Incredible Years Training Series program to prevent, reduce, and treat conduct problems among children and to increase their social competence.
Abstract: The Incredible Years Parents, Teachers, and Children Training Series uses group discussion, videotape modeling, and rehearsal intervention techniques to assist adults living and working with children ages 2 to 10. The purpose of the series is to prevent delinquency, drug abuse, and violence by teaching effective child management skills to different types of participants. The program’s short-term goals are to reduce conduct problems in children and promote their social, emotional, and academic competence; promote parental competence and strengthen families; and promote teacher competence and strengthen school-home connections. The paper describes training methods, qualifications of group leaders, social skills and problem-solving curriculum, content and program mechanics, program diffusion, and implementing the programs in applied settings. It also summarizes the program’s effectiveness. Tables, figure, references, bibliography
