Reported crime in North Carolina increased 2 percent from 1994 to 1995. Violent crime (murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) increased 1 percent. Individually, murder dropped 12 percent; rape remained the same, and robbery and aggravated assault both increased 1 percent. Property crime (burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft) increased 3 percent across the State. Juvenile (under 18 years old) arrests for murder increased 8 percent over the last year, and robbery arrests in the same group increased 14 percent. Over the last 10 years, arrests of juveniles 15 years old and under for violent crimes increased 136 percent. A total of 1,218.8 arrests were made for Part I offenses in 1995, and 5,973.9 arrests were made for Part II offenses.
