One of the important components of a 1992 reorganization of New York State's correctional service was the grouping of the correctional facilities by geographical proximity into administrative regions; this report presents a profile of the inmate population within each region 3 years after the reorganization occurred.
Abstract
These administrative regions, referred to as Hub, are groups of neighboring facilities that share administrative, support, and program services. Each hub has a core or "hub" facility at which inmates are received and from which inmate movement and other administrative service delivery functions are controlled. This report profiles the inmate population in each Hub as well as the population at each of the correctional facilities within the Hub. This profile contains the following demographic information on inmates: gender, age, race/ethnicity, region, birthplace, marital status, number of living children, religious affiliation, and veteran status. Data on criminal history address minimum sentence, offense, predicate felony sentencing status, prior adult criminal record, length of time served at the current facility, the length of time in custody, and estimated time to earliest release. Also addressed are inmate characteristics relevant to programming: reading proficiency, academic degree status, English language proficiency, alcoholism, and drug use. Appended map showing facilities by region and data on minimum sentence by security level
