The CISP is a true community-based initiative targeting juveniles from selected neighborhoods for intensive supervision in their own communities. The program nurtures community support and incorporates community safety and youth accountability. It provides 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week accountability through electronic monitoring, mandatory school attendance, mandatory CISP activities during evening hours and weekends, and staff-provided transportation home from all CISP activities. Individualized treatment may include some or all of the following: group and family counseling focusing on the reality therapy model; drug and alcohol counseling; community service; school or work; recreational and cultural activities; and performance monitoring and sanctioning. The article describes goals and objectives of the CISP and program evaluation and evolution, as well as the Balanced and Restorative Justice Project philosophy incorporated into CISP.
