This paper outlines the ways in which the results of research and demonstration workshops held at the Ninth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders could be operationalized.
Abstract
The rationale of each workshop and steps taken to prepare them were presented, and suggestions for appropriate action by United Nations members and other relevant entities were offered to contribute to the effective exchange of experiences at the workshops. The workshops primarily took the form of case study panel discussions, video programs, documents, and other presentations. One of the workshops focused on urban policy and crime prevention. Another workshop considered various proposals to enhance international cooperation in the fields of technical assistance, research, training, and advisory services. Other workshops covered computerized applications in criminal justice management and information systems, links between the media and the criminal justice system, environmental protection, and corruption of public officials. An annex provides details on activities and costs associated with the computerization of criminal justice data. Additional information on urban policies and violent crime prevention is appended.
