Abstract
The book gives practical guidance on making a home safe and secure to an acceptable degree and offers instructions on installing an effective alarm system. It shows burglars' preferred methods of entry, the weak points they look out for, and many of their tricks. It also explains the pros and cons of alarm systems, discusses which features are important, clears away the mystery surrounding technical terms and expressions, shows how to install a system, how to prevent faults, and what to do if any occur. For persons who have some technical and constructional skills, the book provides a description and circuits for two simple and proven designs for control units, one for a domestic system and one for a foolproof public-hall system. In addition, the book provides information on physical security, sensors, space protectors, gadgets and gimmicks, British Standards for intruder alarms, light pollution, and guarding against fire.
