The book places the reader in common law enforcement and police situations and encourages a decision, a proposed resolution; no answers are necessarily wrong or right. The roles range from police patrol officer to chief, from small-town police departments to metropolitan police agencies, with emphasis on the learning aspects of role playing, identification and problem solving. The book is divided into seven sections, each dealing with a particular area of concern to law enforcement officers: (1) Police and the Community; (2) Family and Crisis Intervention; (3) Police and Juveniles; (4) Police and the Emotionally Distressed; (5) Police Stress; (6) Police Ethics; and (7) Police Administration and Supervision. Each section contains seven case studies and related discussion questions to help the reader determine if his or her solutions and decisions represent the preferred course of action for a given case.
