This is a comprehensive training guide and instructional text that covers all of the subjects essential to the effective training of protection (security) officers; it is the course text for the Certified Protection Officer Program.
Abstract
Unit I covers the history of private security, report writing, memory and observations, and preventive security; and Unit II addresses patrol techniques, safety considerations, traffic control, crowd management, and crime scene and evidence preservation. Unit III pertains to physical security measures, and Unit IV focuses on explosive devices, bomb threats, and search procedures; basic alarm systems; fire prevention and detection; and hazardous materials. Unit V provides instruction in security and labor relations; emergency planning and disaster control; and terrorism, VIP protection, and hostage conditions. Unit VI considers human relations, interviewing techniques, stress management, and crisis intervention. Topics in Unit VII include security awareness, security investigations, employee dishonesty, and substance abuse. Unit VIII focuses on legal aspects in security; and Unit IX addresses health, fitness, and exercise prescription. The remaining units (Units X to XII) discuss first aid and CPR, use of force, public relations, security and police liaison, and ethics and professionalism.
