This volume examines the shoplifting and other theft behaviors committed by generally honest persons, based on the author's professional experience in assessing and treating hundreds of atypical theft offenders in the forensic service of a psychiatric institution in Canada for 12 years and in 11 subsequent years of private practice.
Abstract
The discussion is intended to assist clinicians, attorneys, judges, police, security personnel, employee assistance program personnel, atypical theft offenders, family members and friends of these offenders, and students. The book's five sections examine the reasons why honest people steal; explain the assessment of the atypical theft offender; provide an overview of treatment techniques; give suggestions to atypical theft offenders and their family and friends; and offer advice for security personnel, human resources staff, employee assistance programs, and criminal justice personnel.
