Abstract
The admission and release summary covers the adult average monthly population, end of fiscal year custody level comparison, and total adult admissions to and releases from the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) for fiscal year 1978 through fiscal year 1997. Data on adult inmates currently confined (June 1997) is broken down by gender. For both adult female and male inmates, the following data are provided: record center, admission type, race, current age, commitment area, most serious offense category, minimum and maximum sentence, length of stay, current custody, and length of stay in months. Data for adults on parole address admission type, sex, race, current age, commitment area, most serious offense category, minimum and maximum sentence, length of stay in an institution, and length of stay on parole in months. Data on admissions to DCS cover the characteristics and legal status for offenders with revocations and new admissions as well as regular admissions and "evaluators" and "safekeepers." Similar data are provided for offenders released from DCS, released to parole, released to community corrections, and those discharged from parole and who had their parole revoked.
