This report describes the Queensland, Australia, Criminal Justice Commission with respect to its structure, role, publications, and activities during the year that ended on June 30, 1997.
Abstract
The CJC monitors and reviews the Queensland criminal justice system and coordinates and initiates reform. The organization's division focus on official misconduct, research and coordination, intelligence, witness protection, corruption prevention, and corporate services. During the year, the CJC released 9 publications on policing issues and 3 on criminal justice matters, and made 523 recommendations for criminal or disciplinary action in misconduct investigations. It also gave 50 workshops in ethical decision-making for all levels of the police service and offered witness protection to 62 people and conducted 152 relocations. The CJC received 3,559 complaints regarding police; most complaints related to police assaults, other criminal acts, and failure to perform duties.
