This report describes and mission and organizational structure of the Division of Police in Columbus, Ohio, and the agency's activities and accomplishments during 1995.
Abstract
An overview notes that the city experienced a 2-percent decrease in violent crime in 1995, including a decline in homicides from 100 in 1994 to 78 in 1995. The police are planning to implement community policing, are seeking community input into the ideals of the agency's mission statement, and will begin the formal accreditation process with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies in 1996. The agency's subdivisions include the executive, administrative, patrol, investigative, and support operations subdivisions. The agency reported 59,630 index offenses during the year and made 21,200 arrests, including 3,751 juvenile arrests.
