Aviation terrorism is more than an attack on the rights of the innocent and the rule of law. It constitutes a great threat to global peace. However, anti-terrorism security measures have failed to keep ahead of advancing threats. As hijacking has become more difficult, terrorists have adopted new tactics, such as sabotage bombing. To keep terrorists from getting ahead of the world's aviation security industry, the aim must be, instead of reacting to terrorist attacks, to anticipate, pre-empt and preclude them. The book reviews the nature and development of aviation terrorism; regional variations and responses; case studies of selected incidents; and new and potential threats to civil aviation. In addition, it considers the changing nature of the threat, and offers suggestions for keeping pace with the changing threat, with emphasis on prevention.
